Summer School and Minor Programs

The P.I. Reed School of Journalism recognizes the increasing need for flexibility in student scheduling. Whether you are a School of Journalism major or an off-campus, non-traditional student, there are several courses you can take during the summer and online that allow you to continue your education outside the regular academic calendar.

Summer Courses
During the summer session, we offer on-campus and online courses on a variety of topics, including media writing, advertising, photojournalism and web design. Students often elect to get ahead during the summer by taking elective courses or gaining credits that apply toward acceptance into their major area of study. Direct admit journalism students may be eligible to enroll in Journalism 101—Introduction to Mass Communications the summer before their first semester.

Online Minors
The School also offers online minors that are open to non-journalism students enrolled at WVU. All courses in the popular Advertising Minor are available during the summer session. While all are available online, some are offered on campus, as well. In Summer 2007, the School launched its new Public Relations Minor, also available to all non-journalism students.

Registering for Online Courses
Please contact WVU Extended Learning to learn more about registering for an online course.

If you are a non-WVU student interested in online courses, you’ll need to apply for WVU Extended Learning's Guest Pass.
