While rooted in tradition, the WVU Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism (SOJ) offers an innovative, student-centered curriculum and real-world experiences that prepare students for careers in 21st century mass communications.
SOJ students learn by doing. Using the latest media technology, students produce real products – stories, broadcasts, campaigns and projects – that are published and adopted by professional clients.
In addition, community outreach and service learning are incorporated into our undergraduate programs, allowing students to connect with their communities and learn how to be compassionate and committed media professionals.
The SOJ offers three undergraduate degree programs in advertising, journalism and public relations. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science in Journalism degree, and their diplomas indicate their specific field of study.

Students who entered the School of Journalism prior to Fall 2009 should follow the program requirements for the broadcast news or news-editorial programs instead of the journalism program.
The SOJ’s undergraduate programs are fully accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. West Virginia University is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
