Scholarships & Financial Aid

Undergraduate Students

The West Virginia University Office of Financial Aid offers financial support to eligible undergraduate students in a variety of forms, including loans, grants, scholarship and work-study opportunities. In addition, the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism (SOJ) offers its own internal scholarships, based on financial need and academic promise.

A limited number of SOJ scholarships are available to incoming freshmen. Scholarships are typically awarded in late spring, in advance of the upcoming academic year. All students interested in being considered for SOJ scholarships must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and an SOJ Scholarship Application form.

Graduate Students

Graduate students are eligible to apply for financial aid through West Virginia University, typically in the form of loans. In addition, the SOJ offers a limited number of merit-based graduate assistantships to students enrolled in the Master of Science in Journalism program.
