Renovations Continue in Martin Hall
Martin Hall is undergoing extensive renovations this summer, including work to the roof and cupola and new interior paint, floors, lights, etc. But, yes, we’re still here!

The main office has been temporarily relocated to 104.

All renovations will be complete before the fall semester begins.

Student-Written Essay Scholarship Contest
The Journal of College Admission is looking for student-written articles about the college-transition and admission process (the college search, application process, transitioning from high school to college, etc).

High school juniors and seniors and college freshman and sophomore are invited to enter. Finalists will have their work published in the Winter 2009 Journal of College Admission special issue, The Student Perspective: My Transition Experience. Seven finalists will be awarded $1,000 each.

Deadline is September 1.

World Nomads Scholarship
World Nomads has partnered with Nat Geo Adventure to offer this rare opportunity for the Scholarship recipient to go on assignment to Rajasthan, India, to participate on a World Expeditions Community Project and create a short documentary.

WV Legislative Public Information Officer Job Description
The position of Public Information Officer (PIO) calls for an individual to cover actions of the Legislature during the Regular 60-Day Session (January through March) as well as Extended and Special Sessions.  In addition, the PIO also is required to attend Interim Committee meetings which are scheduled throughout the remainder of the year.  These meetings usually occur each month for three consecutive days.  While the meeting dates and times vary each month, they do occur on a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and may run from 9 AM to 8 PM.

Public Information Officers attend committee meetings and floor sessions; research and compose copy included on the website, write news releases, personal columns and speeches for lawmakers.  This legislative staffer also provides information to be included in official legislative public information brochures.

An individual in this position must be self-motivated, have initiative and be well-informed regarding local, state, federal and global events.  S/he must have a command of the grammatical structure of the English language, employ professional and personal organizational skills and incorporate a practical application of research.  The individual also must have a working knowledge of the variety of software programs in use by the office or be a quick study.

In addition, the worker must demonstrate an ability to interact effectively with members of the Legislature, the media, the public and his or her co-workers.

Beginning salary estimate: $27,500 coupled with state benefits (insurance coverage and retirement packages)
