Students applying to WVU as undergraduate students who indicate they want to be Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism (SOJ) majors are considered as direct admits if they have:

The SOJ will notify direct admit students of their status in a formal letter.

SOJ direct admit students are eligible for a limited number of freshmen scholarships and are assigned an SOJ advisor beginning their first academic term. Direct admits also enroll in JRL 115, a special SOJ orientation course that prepares them for college and their major. Direct admit students are fully declared majors once they take and pass the Journalism Qualifying Exam (JQE) and complete JRL 215 with a “C” or better.

Direct admit students also have the opportunity to participate in the Adventure WV: J-School program, a unique orientation program offered through a partnership between WVU’s Adventure WV program and the SOJ.
