High School Journalism Competition

Each spring, the P.I. Reed School of Journalism hosts the West Virginia University High School Journalism Competition, bringing more than 100 high school students from across the state and region to Morgantown to compete in live competitions.

Co-sponsored by the West Virginia Press Association, the annual event is designed to provide high school students the opportunity to put their journalistic skills to the test. Students compete in broadcast, writing, photojournalism, and print design events. In 2007, the School of Journalism added a new advertising competition.

The School also hosts an awards luncheon the day after the competition. Student winners are announced, followed by a multimedia presentation of the photojournalism competition.
